SST-307: Fall Prevention - 8 Hours

Fall Prevention

The purpose of this course, is to educate workers on how to avoid accidents while working on roofs, leading edges, ladders, scaffolds, and any surface from which a fall is possible.

This course will define reulations and safety rules associated with fall hazards on construction job sites. According to Local Law 196, all construction workers that, at their work site, may encounter heights or work around fall hazards must complete this certification and be able to present the credentials of completion at the time of hire for any working site.

This course is intended to increase awareness of fall hazards and worksite dangers. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

Upon completing this course, the students will be able to:

  • Recall, identify, and explain terms associated with falls in construction.
  • Explain the importance of fall prevention.
  • Assess, recognize, and prevent fall hazards to minimize incidents and harm on worksites.
  • Identify proper anchorage points and calculate fall distance for a variety of fall arrest devices.
  • List and differentiate OSHA Subpart M and other safety requirements associated with falls.
  • Discuss the importance of fall prevention tecniques and how they apply to avoid common fall hazards on the job.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

100% attendance of this course is required to gain certification. Students must attend all 8 Hours, and are expected to be on time as per Quantum Safety’s rules.

To fulfill all requirements of both Quantum Safety’s testing and the Department of Buildings (DOB), students must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • They can calculate fall distances for various types of fall arrest devices AND identify appropriate anchorage points.
  • An adequate understanding of OSHA’s Subpar M and local ordinances on fall prevention.

To clearly demonstrate these objectives, every student must pass a final exam before certification and achieve at least a 65% passing grade.

Note: Final exams can be attempted as many times as necessary.

LATENESS AND ABSENCES POLICY

30 minutes is considered the maximum allowed time for lateness. Any student who is absent for any training, or who shows up 30 minutes after the scheduled starting time will be asked to schedule a make-up training day for the contact hours.

Note: No incomplete contact hours certifications will be issued. Students must make-up any missed time for their courses.
